# Updates and channels

> How Overlay Desktop updates after Gate B.

After official releases begin:

* Updates are delivered from the same GitHub Releases channel used by
  getoverlay.io/download.
* Downgrades and prereleases are rejected by the desktop updater policy.
* Website download metadata and auto-update metadata must resolve to the same
  version for a given release.

Until Gate B, no public update channel should be advertised.
