# macOS permissions

> Why Overlay requests system permissions.

| Permission                | Why Overlay may ask                                        |
| ------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| Microphone                | Voice input / transcription                                |
| Accessibility             | Approved UI automation tools                               |
| Apple Events / Automation | Control other apps when an approved tool needs it          |
| Files / folders           | Read/write user-selected or approved paths                 |
| Network / browser         | Interactive browsing and policy-restricted agent browsing  |
| Keychain                  | Persist auth and user-owned API keys via OS secure storage |

Deny any permission you do not want to grant. Related features fail closed.
After changing **System Settings → Privacy & Security**, quit and relaunch Overlay.
