# Download and installation

> Install Overlay Desktop on Apple Silicon Macs.

## Official builds

Signed, notarized builds will ship from GitHub Releases on
[LayerNorm/overlay-desktop](https://github.com/LayerNorm/overlay-desktop) and
from [getoverlay.io/download](https://getoverlay.io/download) after **Gate B**.

Until Gate B is approved, the website download APIs return **503** and do not
advertise a DMG.

### After Gate B

1. Open [getoverlay.io/download](https://getoverlay.io/download).
2. Confirm **macOS, Apple Silicon**.
3. Download the DMG via the site (routes through `/api/latest-release/download`).
4. Open the DMG and drag Overlay to Applications.
5. Launch Overlay and complete sign-in in your browser.

## From source

See [Building from source](/docs/desktop/build-from-source). From-source builds are
unsigned unless you configure your own Developer ID credentials.
